Statement

Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Workers Condem the Massacre of the Protesting People

The oppressed people of our country are once again mourning their children. This time, the killing of protesters opposing the Islamic Republic’s economic and social policies is even more widespread and horrific than the street massacres of the 1980s, as well as the killings of December 2017/January 2018, November 2019, and September 2022. The immense shock that has gripped society does not stem from surprise since we have always known the extent of the malice and brutality of the ruling repression forces, but rather from the fact that the rulers, without the slightest consideration, decided to carry out the massacre of thousands of the children of this land. This itself is yet another proof of the definitive end of any hope for reform or change within the system, even for the most optimistic and deluded individuals.

The ruling power has once again demonstrated that it places no value whatsoever on the lives of the people and our children. How can they commit such a massacre and then, with ruthless and inhumane behavior, display the bodies of the slain before the public eye? Can such a government retain even the slightest legitimacy in people’s minds?

Following the publication of the Syndicate’s statement entitled “Supporting the People’s Just Struggle; Moving Toward Real Freedom and Equality, Not a Return to the Past,” like over 93 million people across the country, we were also deprived of access to the internet and other means of communication; a systematic blackout that continued until recent days, and even today, communications remain unreliable. Nevertheless, the Syndicate continues to emphasize its fundamental and inviolable principle that the real liberation of the people of Iran is possible only through collective leadership and the conscious, organized, and independent participation of the working class as a whole, together with other oppressed strata inside the country and not through military intervention by the United States and Israel, nor by any other power-seeking foreign states or their affiliated and supportive forces.

While strongly condemning the mass killing of the country’s deprived people, the Syndicate extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in the January uprising, and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.

News of executions is heard every day. The state must know that even the execution of thousands of political prisoners in the 1980s could not prevent the people from continuing to demand justice, freedom and equality. Today’s mass killings and executions, in a much larger, more informed and more diverse society, will not only be able to contain protests and deep social dissatisfaction, but also increase the scope of public anger. The least costly path for the people and the country is for all of you to step aside immediately, and immediately stop the killing machine, repression, and the destruction of the country.

Long live freedom, equality, and the people’s solidarity

The solution for workers and hardworking people is unity and organization
