The image of solidarity with Sharifeh Mohammadi

Sharifeh Mohammadi, the Iranian labor activist & member of the public labor committee which organized Iranian workers, was sentenced to death on July 3rd.

Our comrades in Isfahan and Tehran have put up posters on walls and public places in defense of Sharifeh Mohammadi and the struggle in which she has been a fighter. They have distributed short leaflets in some neighborhoods. The leaflet reads:

‘We are all Sharifeh Mohammadi. Do you know Sharifeh? Sharifeh is a worker and a fighter. She has dedicated years of her life to defending workers’ interests.” She believed that workers would not be able to claim their rights from the grip of the capitalists of the Islamic Republic without organizing. Sharifeh was arrested in December 2023, and after enduring extensive torture, she was sentenced to death on the charge of “baghi” by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Rasht in July, 2024. Do you know what the charge of “baghi” means? Baghi means rebellion or uprising against the legitimate Imam and Islamic ruler. But Sharifeh Mohammadi’s “real crime” is her effort in the class struggle against the existing capitalist system. Let us be the voice of Sharifeh, who has been the voice of the voiceless, the voice of the majority of wage earners and workers.’

And it is clear that defending Sharifeh Mohammadi simultaneously means defending her ideals and the struggle for which she has been arrested and tortured, and now the ominous shadow of the noose is hanging over her. This noose is woven from the threads of tyranny and the weft of class oppression, not just for Sharifeh Mohammadi, but also for the entire working class, all the impoverished, all the oppressed. For every worker who goes on strike, every worker who shouts, every worker who wants to fundamentally change the situation in favor of the lower classes. Let us rise in defense of Sharifeh Mohammadi against the executioners.
